Oh, Japan, you absolute stunner. I remember when I first touched down I was positively overflowing with excitement. I don’t know that I’d anticipated going to a new place so much in my life.
Japan is a country that I’ve dreamed of visiting since I was a kid. It is genuinely the first country I ever really daydreamed about, researched, read about, as a youngin’. I used to wake up at 6am every day before school to watch Sailor Moon. I would beg my mom to buy me Japanese sweets at the grocery store. When in High School a Japanese exchange student arrived, I plied her with so many questions she must’ve thought I was a complete lunatic.
Needless to say, it didn’t disappoint. The sights were even grander than I imagined, the sushi fresher than I’ve ever tasted, the mochi creamier and softer than the lightest, fluffiest thing I’ve ever eaten. I was in heaven for the entire two weeks we spent there and when it was time to catch the bus to the airport I thought about ways that I could try to miss my flight.
These are 24 of my favorite photos I took in Japan. When I look back, I wish I’d taken more. I wish I’d been snap happy. Because time has passed and it’s getting harder and harder to remember the sunset over Hiroshima or the beautiful makeup that the geishas wore in Kyoto.
I guess it’s just time to go back and remind myself.

Love these photos! They really bring back so many memories of our travels to Japan. In 4 1/2 years living in Korea I traveled to Japan 7 times! Kyoto and the maiko were my absolute favorite!
