24 Photos of Japan That Prove It’s One of the Most Magical Places on Earth

Oh, Japan, you absolute stunner. I remember when I first touched down I was positively overflowing with excitement. I don’t know that I’d anticipated going to a new place so much in my life.

Japan is a country that I’ve dreamed of visiting since I was a kid. It is genuinely the first country I ever really daydreamed about, researched, read about, as a youngin’. I used to wake up at 6am every day before school to watch Sailor Moon. I would beg my mom to buy me Japanese sweets at the grocery store. When in High School a Japanese exchange student arrived, I plied her with so many questions she¬†must’ve thought I was a complete lunatic.

Needless to say, it didn’t disappoint. The sights were even grander than I imagined, the sushi fresher than I’ve ever tasted, the mochi creamier and softer than the lightest, fluffiest thing I’ve ever eaten. I was in heaven for the entire two weeks we spent there and when it was time to catch the bus to the airport I thought about ways that I could try to miss my flight.

These are 24 of my favorite photos I took in Japan. When I look back, I wish I’d taken more. I wish I’d been snap happy. Because time has passed and it’s getting harder and harder to remember the sunset over Hiroshima or the beautiful makeup that the geishas¬†wore in Kyoto.

I guess it’s just time to go back and remind myself.
