For me, summer is all about planning that perfect couple’s getaway. It’s about booking a trip with my guy and getting away from it all. We’re so lucky to call Mexico home and be able to choose from so many insanely beautiful destinations. It’s funny to think that we actually live in a country where so many people head for their honeymoons!
This is a collection of all of my favorite romantic destinations and resorts to head this summer (or fall or winter or spring for that matter!). Whether you’re looking for big plush rooms, private pools, amazing views, or just a place to kick back with your partner and enjoy each other’s company, you should do it in Mexico.
The Most Romantic Places in Mexico
1. The Beaches of Bacalar
Fly into Cancun and then head south. It’s about a four-hour drive, but once you get there it’ll all be worth it. The water is absolutely stunning in this little Caribbean inlet. Because it’s so far from the tourist hotspots, it’s really low-key; perfect for a romantic getaway.
The Al Cielo Bacalar is the epitome of a romantic Mexican escape. The restaurant sits in the middle of the lagoon and the private villas are each tucked away in their own little section. It’s seriously stunning.
2. Partying in Playa del Carmen
Playa del Carmen is a great place if you’re looking for a romantic getaway where you can test out tons of different restaurants and bars, as well as get around the Riviera Maya region to do a bit of exploring. There is so much to see and do in the Yucatan and basing yourself in Playa del Carmen is practical and fun.
The Royal Playa del Carmen is absolutely stunning. Every room has a private pool, it has private beach access, and the spa services are made for couples looking for a relaxing and romantic getaway.

Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun is also an incredible place worth checking out. First of all, any hotel that starts with the word secret is somewhere that piques my interest. This hotel is much more secluded and is a little bit outside of the main town of Playa del Carmen, but the surroundings are seriously stunning. The beach literally only belongs to the guests, who all need to be over 16, so if you’re looking for an “adult” vacation, this is a great option.

3. Caught up in Cuixmala
Cuixmala is a hotel that is so big and beautiful it’s basically its own city. It’s been rated as one of the top 10 hotels in the world. It’s absurdly beautiful and so crazy romantic that you might never want to leave.
On one side of Cuixmala you have the mountains and volcanos and on the other side, you look straight out at the Pacific Ocean. This is a real destination hotel and everything you could possibly need is catered for.

4. Crazy for Cabo
Is it bad that Cabo reminds me of the show Laguna Beach? Anyone else?
Besides being a place for spring breakers, it’s one of the most beautiful coastlines in all of Mexico. There are so many little resorts and boutique hotels along the Pacific coast that it can be hard to narrow it down to the most romantic. Allow me to assist.
The Esperanza Resort is incredible. The setting along the craggy coastline is literally jaw-dropping. The beach, the seemingly endless number of infinity pools that they have, the restaurants, the spa, the rooms. It’s all utter perfection.

5. The Jungles of Jalisco
Jalisco is the home of tequila and mariachi music. Okay, that might not shout romance (until you’ve had enough tequila), there is a little getaway in this famous state that might change your mind.
There’s a tiny little coastal town in what feels like the middle of the jungle, called Yelapa. There are no roads to Yelapa. The only way to get there is to take a boat – either a ferry or one that is organized by your hotel.
Now picture it: a secluded beach along the Pacific Ocean, surrounded by jungle on three sides, birds chirping, the sound of waves crashing against the rocks at night. I don’t know about you, but that is literally my ideal vacation spot.
Hotel Verana is where I’m going to stay when I go to Yelapa. They have a bungalow called Casa Amor. What could be more romantic? I love how open it all is. It’s not utter luxury, it’s not super plush, but the openness, the connection to nature, there’s something really sensual about it all.

6. Resting up in Riviera Nayarit
Riviera Nayarit is another beautiful region along the Pacific coast near Puerto Vallarta.
The Imanta Resort is in the town of Punta Mita. It’s secluded enough to enjoy some solitude with your beau, while still offering all of the amenities of a Mexican beach town. Villas have their own private pools and huge sliding doors so that you can enjoy the sound of the waves and the ocean breeze without having to actually get out of bed.
There are literally SO MANY romantic places in Mexico, it is nearly impossible to choose just one. If you twisted my arm though, I’d head to Jalisco first. Where would you go first?
